A proof of Cairns' conjecture about geodesic triangulations of the 2-sphere

RESUMO

This paper contains a detailed proof of a 1941 conjecture of S.S. Cairns concerning the space of geodesic triangulations of the 2-sphere. The methods are neither combinatorical nor Riemannian but belong to differential topology.
